Gujarat first state to give uniforms to over 14 lakh anganwadi children
Education of every child is very important in any state. Recently, like other private schools, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani-led Gujarat government has decided to provide pre-school uniforms to 14 lakh anganwadi students, making it the first state to take such a decision.
Under the scheme, the government will distribute uniforms to 53 thousand anganwadis across Gujarat and each child will be given two sets of uniforms as well as a hygiene kit.
To stop the spread of Coronavirus epidemic, every anganwadis is closed until July 13. The uniforms, designed by the Women and Child Development department of Gujarat, will be distributed at a symbolic event in Gandhinagar by the Chief Minister.
While speaking at the event, CM Rupani said, “A section of children attend private pre-primary schools, wear uniforms and feel proud. With a similar objective, the state government decided to give uniform to all Anganwadi children so that even our children should not be left behind, have a distinctive identity and feel confident.”
Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Vibhavari Dave said, “Gujarat is the first state to give uniforms to over 14 lakh anganwadi children at a cost of Rs 36 crore. When private nursery schools can have uniforms, why not anganwadi children? They will look smart in uniforms and also attract other children to the anganwadis.”
Gujarat government has brought many initiatives for children’s education and is working on making Gujarat malnutrition free by providing nutritious food to children, adolescents and pregnant women.
